Mortgage Lifter |
These tomatoes have a
sweet rich flavor and turn deep pink when mature. This variety was
developed in the 1930's by Mr. Marshall Cletis
Byles - Radiator Charlie
- of Logan, WV to help pay off his home mortgage. He was able to pay off
his mortgage in 6 years by selling the tomato plants. He crossed a German
Johnson, Beefsteak, and Italian & English varieties to come up with this
unique variety without being acidic.
Excellent for slicing and salads with minimal seeds. A family heirloom
variety from West Virginia, USA. |

Black Krim |
This heirloom tomato originates from
the Isle of Krim in the Black Sea, near the Crimean Peninsula of Ukraine.
It is believed that soldiers returning home from the Crimean War, in the
late 19th century, gathered these seeds and began sharing them. As a
result these seeds were later widely distributed throughout Europe. Black
Krim tomatoes are extremely tasty, and will add not only great flavor, but
visual interest to your salads. These tomatoes are also great for slicing
and cooking.

San Marzano |
The story goes that the first seed of
the San Marzano tomato came to Campania in 1770, as a gift from the
Kingdom of Peru to the Kingdom of Naples, and that it was planted in the
area that corresponds to the present commune of San Marzano. Sounds good,
but some disagree. Either way, a paste tomato with pointy end, heavy walls
and little juice, so it's great for tomato sauce. It is low in sugar and
acid, which gives it superior flavor when cooked. |

White Queen |
Beefsteak-style fruit weighs to 12 oz.
and is smooth skinned with ribbed shoulders. Some fruits have a pink blush
or streaks on their blossom ends that ripen to a pale creamy yellow.
Tomatoes are juicy and sweet. This variety is one of the oldest of the
white varieties and still maintains great standing today. |

Hillbilly |
Jerry Lee Bosner in Ohio is credited
for this colorful tomato. This huge, heavily-ribbed, orange-yellow fruit
has red mottled skin and red streaks within. Very sweet, with juicy fruity
flavors, great for slicing. Low acid. |

Green Sausage |
How about a green paste tomato good
for sauce? Beautiful, striped, yellow-green, long sausage shaped fruits
are very dense and meaty with darker green vertical striping and a pointed
tip. Good tasting 'novelty' tomato that brightens up a tomato display or

Large, white-skinned beafsteak type
tomato. The tomatoes feature a mild, sweet flavor and have alot of juice,
yet few seeds. Flavor is top notch, creamy and commonly weigh up to and

looks like a beautiful mahogany-colored Bartlett pear with greenish

Trifele is one of the blackest varieties available. Excellent for fresh

sized (4"-6" long) with a mild to medium heat level. It is used a numerous
ways including salsa, grilling, stir fried or stuffed for chile rellenos
and substituted in any dish for bell pepper and is key to the cuisine of
Mexico. When dried, it becomes a broad, flat, heart-shaped pod called an
Ancho Chile and is often ground into a powder used for flavoring recipes.

Pasilla Bajio

The name in Spanish means
little raisin which refers to the wrinkled skin as this pepper dries. This
plant produces 7" long by 1" wide peppers that are mild to hot and
turn from green to dark brown when mature. Use this pepper fresh in
enchilada sauce or salsas. Use it dried and powdered to make original
smoky flavored Mexican mole sauces. |

Silver Rose Garlic |
For a soft neck, the 8-12
cloves are fairly uniform in size, and light in color - White to Rose -
turning to blush toward the bottom end. This beautiful white-skinned bulb
has some heat but not too hot or overwhelming. An 8 or
9 month shelf life is not unusual and it is ideal for braiding and
hanging. All of our Silver Rose garlic is from certified organic seed. We
will be replanting most of this crop for next year. We may have some available after curing. Check back on the home page
in late August and reserve early!!! |
